❤ Wait, aren't you Birch Please?
I am! Or, I was. And am. I still think of my jewellery as Birch Please designs, but I was beginning to feel restricted by the name, and I wanted to expand the boundaries of what I could design and make, so I rebranded to Chesca the Illustrator. On top of the jewellery, which is under a bit of a revamp of its own, I want to create illustrations, wall art, home décor and accessories, and anything else I put my mind to. It might take me a while to get some things in the shop, but I'm working hard behind the scenes towards these goals.

❤ So where are all your old designs? Are they coming back?
I'm afraid it's unlikely most of my old designs will be making a return. A lot of them just didn't fit into my vision of where I wanted the business to go. However, some of them are more than deserving of a refresh, so this is what I'm working on now. The death's head moth, luna moth and skeleton cat have all been revamped already, and there are a select number of other old designs that I definitely plan to bring back and re-design. Just not all of them!

❤ How are these made?
My wood and acrylic pieces are designed, laser cut, and printed all in-house in my little studio room in South Wales, UK. I usually design on the iPad in Procreate, then export as a PSD in order to access the file on my laptop. I use Inkscape to create the vector files needed for the laser cutter, and Adobe Photoshop to create the print templates and white and colour print files.
When everything is ready to go I cut the shapes out of 3mm acrylic or 4mm veneered wood in a range of finishes including Maple, Cherry, Oak and Walnut. I can then line the shapes up by hand on a template I've printed in my flatbed printer. I print directly onto the surface of the wood or acrylic with durable UV and water resistant UV inks, with a few layers of white ink underneath the colour layer to make the colours really pop.

❤ Where do you get your ideas?
I've always found this tricky to answer, and yet it's the question I've been asked the most. So I guess the answer is nature? I love weird and wonderful animals, creepy crawlies, and plants. I love bright colours and patterns and detail. Generally, I just see something and sometimes I'll think, wow, that would make a good bit of jewellery. So I make it.

❤ Do you accept custom design commissions?
No, I'm sorry. I have too many of my own ideas to be working on tings for other people. However, I'm always happy to hear ideas and requests - you can comment on my social media to reach me with whatever wacky animal or plant or object you think I should be inspired by next.

❤ What if I need Sterling Silver earring posts or chain?
Contact me at studiochesca@gmail.com before placing an order, and I will get back to you with a quote and options for how to pay for the extra costs involved. Once paid for, I will order the silver components, so there will be a slight delay in shipping time compared to a non special order.

❤ What steps do you take to be eco friendly?
I hold a subscription at Ecologi, planting trees every month to offset carbon emissions. Additionally, as of October 2021, every order plants another tree (bought in batches of 50 trees per 50 orders, per website/Etsy, so I can keep count).
❀ I try as much as possible to reduce waste from my manufacturing process by getting as many pieces as I can out of a single sheet of material. I fill the gaps with small shapes that eventually become earring studs. Whatever scraps of wood are left over either get sent to the recycling centre or go towards heating my home. Leftover coloured acrylic pieces will be donated to my lovely friend Vixie at Jazzy Menagerie, who owns the equipment required to press them into a new full sheet, ready to be cut again.
❀ As for the clear acrylic I use, I have made the switch to GreenCast 100% recycled and recyclable clear acrylic.
❀ I post all orders in fully recyclable packaging. My thank you / gift note cards are made from recycled paper. To reduce waste I do not include a printed invoice. In times that I offer a gift wrapping service, I use recycled and recyclable wrapping paper and tags.

❤ Do you post internationally?
I post worldwide!
If you are in Europe, please order from my Etsy shop instead of this website.

❤ How much does postage cost?
All postage is flat rate, meaning you can buy as many items as you'd like and the postage cost will never increase.
UK: £1.95 Royal Mail First Class Large Letter
International (ex. Europe: see above): £4.95 Royal Mail International Standard
International Tracked (ex. Europe): £14.95 Royal Mail International Tracked & Signed (where available. Tracked OR Signed will be chosen if they are the only option for your country)

❤ When will my order arrive?
I post twice a week, usually on Mondays and Thursdays. UK orders generally arrive 1-3 business days after dispatch. International orders generally arrive in 2-4 weeks, though it can take longer.
Please remember busy periods, adverse weather conditions, global pandemics, customs, and bad luck can all delay a parcel. In the UK, please wait 2 weeks before assuming your parcel is lost. Internationally, please wait 6-8 weeks.

❤ Will my order be tracked?
Not unless you buy tracked shipping.

❤ What if my item gets lost?
If you've waited 2 weeks in the UK, or 6-8 weeks for non-UK customers, and you still haven't had anything turn up, contact me at studiochesca@gmail.com, quoting your order number and confirming the delivery address you provided at checkout is current and correct. I will then send out a replacement ASAP.
It is the responsibility of you, the customer, to provide a full, accurate and up to date delivery address. Orders that don't arrive because the delivery address was incorrect or incomplete will not be replaced or refunded.

❤ Will I have to pay customs fees?
It's possible, if you don't live in the UK. It's up to you to familiarise yourself with your own country's thresholds and regulations.

❤ Can I cancel my order?
Of course. Contact me at studiochesca@gmail.com, before I have dispatched your order, quoting your order number and requesting a cancellation. If I have already dispatched your order (you'll know because you should get a notification email), we can instead organise a return once it turns up. (See next point)

❤ Can I return an item?
Yes, within 30 days of the item's arrival. Contact me at studiochesca@gmail.com, quoting your order number and requesting a return. I will give you the return address (alternatively this can be found on the return address label on the outer packaging of the item) and any other information you require. Once I have received the item and can check it is still in good re-sellable condition, I will issue a refund.
Please note that unless there has been an error on my part, you are responsible for return postage. I will also refund only the item price, not the postage cost.

❤ Do you do wholesale?
No, sorry!

❤ Do you sell in person at events?
Sometimes! However a lot of organisers have raised their costs since the pandemic, so probably not as often as I used to. Keep an eye on my social media for announcements of any events I do attend.
